Palace On Wheels is a joint project of the Ministry of Railways. Government of India and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of India

Recapture the pomp and pageantry of a royal past in royal style. Step aboard the Palace on Wheels, where each of the 14 coaches are decorated in the style of a former Maharaja. See colorful Rajasthan in its entire splendor and the Taj Mahal at Agra. Fully air-conditioned, the train includes two restaurant coaches and a lounge coach with bar and library.palace-on-wheels Your chamber is complete with attached private bath and shower. Palace on Wheels departs every Wednesday September through April.

Bright and cheerful interiors, totally renovated restaurants, bars, lounges - there are features galore to match the mood of the new millennium-- even an exercise gym with weights and exercise bicycle. More spacious, better illumination and some special attractions for women travelers are the highlights. However, the biggest draw is the glass panelling on one side, which allows for an unhindered view of the rich and rustic countryside scenery. International satellite phones will be added soon.


Schedule of Palace On Wheels
The train departs from Delhi Cantonment railway station every Wednesday from September to April.

Tuesday:
Arrive in New Delhi. Afternoon sightseeing of the capital city visiting India Gate, Raj Ghat, Red Fort, Birla Mandir and Qutab Minar.
Overnight in the hotel.

Wednesday
Morning free. In the afternoon, transfer to Delhi Cantt Railway Station at 1630 hrs for traditional welcome, check-in & wait to be escorted to your Saloon. Depart Delhi 1745 Hrs for Jaipur. Dinner on board.

Thursday:
Royal welcome in Jaipur-The Pink City. Morning Discover the marvel of 16th century mix of Hindu & Mughal architecture on Elephant Back at Amber Fort Palace. Lunch at former Royal Residence of Maharaja of Jaipur- Rambagh Palace Hotel. Afternoon visit 19th century built City Palace & Royal Museum & adjoining Jantar Mantar-Astronomical Observatory built in 18th century; followed by shopping for precious stones & semi-precious gems. Depart Jaipur 1700 Hrs for Jaisalmer. Dinner on Board.

Friday:
Travel by Palace on Wheels to the Desert Town of Jaisalmer, founded in 12th century & renowned for it's "Golden Fort", where people still continue to live & trade in mansions constructed in 16th to 18th centuries.

Saturday:
The heritage train of Rajasthan takes you to the town of imposing Mehrangarh Fort, built on top of a hillock in 16th century & never captured. Lunch at present Royal Residence of Maharaja of Jodhpur-Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel. Depart Jodhpur 1600 Hrs for Sawai Madhopur. Dinner on Board.

Sunday:
Early morning visit to Ranthambhore jungle for glimpse of the Royal Tiger, in the former hunting preserve of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Depart Sawai Madhopur 1100 hrs for Chittorgarh. Lunch on Board.

Afternoon visit to ruins of Chittor Fort, originally built in 8th century atop sprawling hill & abandoned in 16th century. Dinner on Board. Night, Palace on Wheels stationary at Chittorgarh Station.

Monday:
Palace on WheelFull day excursion to City of Lakes-Udaipur. Founded in 16th century by former rulers of Chittorgarh, it is said to be the most romantic city East of Suez. Lunch at former Royal Summer Palace located on an island- Lake Palace Hotel.

Depart 2000 Hrs for Chittorgarh by the Luxury train of India. Dinner on Board.

Tuesday:
Early morning heritage train of Rajasthan takes you to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, former hunting preserve of the Maharaja of Bharatpur. Later visit the Magnificent & well preserved Ghost Town of Fatehpur Sikri, capital of the Mughal empire for short while in 16th Century. Lunch in Agra Hotel. Afternoon free to enjoy the sheer beauty of The Taj Mahal- poetry of love in marble. Evening visit to Marble factories & showrooms. Dinner on board on the Palace on Wheels. Depart by the Palace on Wheels at 2100 Hrs for Delhi.

Wednesday:
Early morning arrival at Delhi Cantt by Palace on Wheels. Have sumptuous breakfast & bid farewell to the Luxury Train Tour by 0800 Hrs.

Transfer to your hotel. Day at leisure for independent activities with car at your disposal.

In the evening, transfer to International Airport for your flight back home.
